Mike Garrett For many years from the late 1950s through the late 1970s, Chevrolet's El Camino and Ford's Ranchero battled it out in the car-based pickup truck market. The base engine was a V-6 that started at 200 cubic inches and was later enlarged to 229. The custom chrome trim all around really sets the colour off and is a very subtle custom touch to ensure that this Chevrolet is ready to look the part and ride for many more years to come. The most powerful engine available was a 350-c.i. This El Camino has a whopping 400Cu Inch V8 residing under the hood and it has been made sure that all the right upgrades have been taken care of from the air conditioning and disc upgrade right down to the new blushing red paint. With the same beautiful styling as Chevrolet’s Chevelle this El Camino offers more than a coupe could with the full-size truck bed in the back used for many purposes and easier access than your standard pickup. Optional again were a 267-cubic-inch V8 with 125 horsepower (93 kW) and a 305 V8, now with 155 horsepower (down five). The base V6 displaced 229 cubic inches, up from 200 the year before. The El Camino may not have been the first “coupe utility” offered to consumers but it defiantly is the most recognisable and sought after. The 1980 El Camino started out the 1980s with few changes, though engine choices were shuffled a little.
